Hello, Welcome to our January newsletter. We are officially two weeks into 2026. By now, the initial burst of New Year enthusiasm often meets the reality of returning to the daily grind. At Covent Garden Physio, we see a very specific pattern in the clinic around this time of year. The festive break feels like a distant memory, and the return to full-time desk work is starting to manifest as stiffness in the neck and lower back. If you have spent the last 10 days sitting more than usual, you are not alone. The “January stiffening” is a common complaint we treat at Covent Garden Physio. Interestingly, the wellness data for 2025/6 suggests a shift away from high-intensity punishment and towards longevity. The goal this year isn’t just to burn calories, but to move well for longer. We are seeing more patients interested in mobility and sustainable strength rather than just a quick fix.

If you are one of the brave souls aiming for a start line this spring, or perhaps training for a Hyrox event, now is the critical window. The majority of overuse injuries like Achilles pain or runner’s knee start as minor niggles in January when training volume spikes too quickly.
![]() Our advice for this week is simple: listen to the whisper before it becomes a shout. If you are suffering from a stiff neck or back after your return to the office, or if your knees are complaining after your long runs, let us take a look before it interrupts your momentum. A quick assessment now can save you weeks of forced rest later in the season.
