Sun, Sea, and… Stretching? How to keep your physio on track this holiday.

Sun, Sea, and… Stretching? How to keep your physio on track this holiday.

As July heats up and Londoners start migrating towards airports and train stations for a well-deserved summer holiday, your physio programme might be the very last thing on your mind.

Let’s be honest: nobody wants to swap a sun lounger for a 45-minute rehab circuit. But stepping completely away from your routine can mean arriving back in London feeling stiff, sore, and like you’re starting from scratch.

The good news? You don’t need a gym (or a lot of willpower) to maintain your progress. Here is how to keep things ticking over without ruining your time off.

4 Ways to Sneak Physio into Your Holiday

  • The “Five-Minute Morning”: Do your most important stretches or exercises right when you wake up, before breakfast. It’s cooler, your body needs waking up after sleeping in a different hotel bed, and once it’s done, you have the rest of the day to relax guilt-free.

  • Use the Pool: Water is brilliant for stiff joints. If your programme includes squats, lunges, or shoulder mobility, doing them chest-deep in the pool adds gentle resistance while keeping the impact beautifully low.

  • Towels are the Ultimate Prop: A beach towel is absolutely perfect for hamstring stretches, chest openers and a rolled up towel is useful for supporting your lower back on a cheap sun lounger.

  • Break it Up: Can’t face doing 3 sets of 10 all at once? Don’t. Do one set while waiting for the kettle to boil, one set before you head out for dinner, and one set while waiting for your family to get ready.

Travel Smart

No matter if you’re flying, taking the train, or driving, sitting for long periods will make you stiff. Fight off those classic travel aches by moving every hour. Make it a habit to leave your seat for a short walk or pull over at a rest stop to stretch your legs.

Enjoy your time away, soak up the sun, and remember that consistency always beats perfection. A little bit of movement every day is far better than doing nothing at all.

Have a wonderful summer break, and we will see you back in the clinic soon!
